In the film JOANNA ANGEL'S MAKING THE BAND. Joanna Angel, is a successful recording artist. She's sold over 10 million records, has toured over 50 countries, and has rocked stages from Los Angeles to Bangkok. But now, it's someone elses turn to shine. Which is why Joanna hosts a reality competition, called "Making the Band". It is via this competition that she hopes to find a few individuals worthy enough to become a supergroup. One that she hopes will go on to superstar-dom, just as she has. The film picks up at 17 weeks into the reality competition. It is here that we find the 6 remaining contestants all living in a house, in Brooklyn New York. The contestants are; Xander Corvus, Seth Gamble, Jon Jon, Lily Lane, Nikki Hearts, and Jordyn Shane(and for some reason, Xander's brother, Tommy Pistol, has managed to stick around too, despite being eliminated 17 episodes ago). We watch as the contestants are given specific tasks by Joanna, and then finally as a result of said tasks, she eventually narrows the 6 contestants down to 3 winners. We see 2 very different assignments given to the contestants. Both with hilarious results. The first task, sees the contestants scramble to find one of several butt plugs, belonging to Joanna, which she has scattered about the house. They are to clean them, and bring them back to her. It is during this sequence, that we the viewer follow Xander and Tommy, as they are in pursuit of a butt plug. They happen to find fellow contestant Lily Lane using one. She is hard pressed not to give it up, but after sex, they are able to sneak it away from her. However, it doesn't work out for Xander, when it's discovered that Tommy has inserted the butt plug in question up his own "end". And then there were 5, as the contestants are met with their new challenge. Joanna now wants each of them to pen an original song. For almost all of them, it seems like an easy task to finish. However, Joanna does have one mandatory stipulation. The original song must include the word, "butthole", at the very lest, within the song's chorus. The stipulation stumps the musician hopefuls. However, things begin to pick up for some of them, not only creatively, but also sexually, as in between the challenges, there is good sex had between contestants. JOANNA ANGEL'S MAKING THE BAND, like BAND SLUTS before it, is one of the most enjoyable efforts that i've seen recently from BURNING ANGEL. MAKING THE BAND is fashioned as a reality competition in progress. We the viewer, watch the later progress of a reality competition, as a group of aspiring musicians vie for a spot in a would-be supergroup, and additionally, a multi-million dollar recording contract. All of which has been orchestrated, and thus hosted by the in-story, famous recording star, Joanna Angel.

The fun of the film is the overall character build up, as well as the accompanying performances. The script for the film, cleverly builds up the idea of Joanna being a world famous recording star, by incorporating the songs which she has recorded and sung on for inclusion in a number of previous BURNING ANGEL productions. It's not only a clever take off, but it's funny. Elsewhere, the contestants themselves also have their own individual personalities. Such as Xander Corvus being more comfortable having his crazy brother, Tommy Pistol around(although hr himself being eliminated during the start of the competition), Nikki Hearts, as the ultra confident youngster guitarist, who's been playing since she was in diapers(or so, she says), Seth Gamble as the obnoxiously cocky, and Jon Jon, a talented Flamenco guitarist, who has been pigeonholed by everyone involved with the show, whom mistake him as a rapper(well....because he's black). There's also the beautiful Lily Lane, and Jordyn Lane, who would add sizzle, as well as great harmony to any group. JOANNA ANGEL's MAKING THE BAND is one scripted porn feature which offers character variety, and the success of these characters can be attributed to the individual performance of each. The overall vibe of the film, is very laid back. It seems as though the cast was given a lot of freedom with their respective characters, so in a lot of ways, although this is a story, and these are characters, a lot of the personality traits shown, are the actor's very own coming through.

This release is a whole lot of fun in terms of comedy. It's easy going, it's silly, but it's funny. It doesn't try too hard to push this comedy upon us, it just comes naturally. For starters, the film features, not only the hilariously funny Tommy Pistol, but also Xander Corvus, whom is also great at comedy. They are 2 of my favorite porn actors, and together, they're here, and as brothers no less. It is really funny, when at the beginning of the movie, they describe their relationship as being similar to Hall and Oates, Sonny snd Cher, or Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett(although they can't quite decide on who exactly is the Lady Gaga in the relationship). It continues as they literally sniff out one of Joanna's butt plugs during their search, thanks to Tommy's incredible sense of smell. Elsewhere, there are other funny element such as Jon Jon wanting to be taken serious, yet everyone assumes that he's a Hip Hop artist. It's stereotyping at its funniest. Even later, they even try to acknowledge his great guitar playing, by saying that he must be "like Lenny Kravitz". It never ends, it's great. Seth Gamble, is also funny as a guy who is very confident. Cocky even. The comedy comes from the character when he is tasked with writing a song about buttholes. It's something that he struggles with, because....who writes songs about buttholes? Eventually, he comes up with a few lines, and the results are pretty hilarious! Elsewhere, both Joanna and Small Hands both play up their characters to the fullest. Joanna as the supposed popstar host, and Smalls in dual personae. First he is the knowledgeable Butt Plug Specialist, from Calabasas, California, "Mr. Hands". And later, he makes an appearance, as Grammy award winning Producer, "Senor Paquenas" from Tijuana, Mexico. Although, I am not detailing each of the film's characters here in full, all of them make this one what it is. It's very much a collective product.

Overall, JOANNA ANGEL'S MAKING THE BAND, storywise, is a pretty well rounded effort. Great setup, and story, as well as characters with personalities, along with a cast who just had fun, as they brought them to life. And did I mention the sex? The film also features a nice collection of sex scenes as well. 4 of them to be exact.

Of the 4 sex scenes, there are 2 boy/girl(Seth Gamble and Nikki Hearts and then Jon Jon and Jordyn Shane(I refuse to call this scene "interracial" - he's a boy, she's a girl, it's as simple as that.)), a three-way(Xander Corvus and Tommy Pistol with Lily Lane), and a big five person finale orgy(Joanna Angel, Small Hands, Lily Lane, Nikki Hearts, and Jordyn Shane). I really did pretty much enjoy all of them, they all bring something to the film. But I will say this - things really to begin, and end quite well for the film when it comes to sex.
