Initial Reaction: Although the DVD as a whole leaves plenty to be desired, the movie definitely deserves to be seen.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty well done. The audio is clear and well balanced, although some of the scenes only have music for audio. The video has a bit of grain, which is to be expected with a movie which was shot on film in the early seventies. When one considers the age of the movie, it actually looks very impressive. Theres a few shadows, but its often well lit, and theres no camera motion to hold things back. For the age of the movie, this is a very impressive looking and sounding release.

Music: As is common with classic porn movies, music plays a decent part in the movie. It varies in balance and style throughout the movie, and helps out each and every scene.

Disc Complaints: The authoring is very poor. Rather than having one title with multiple chapters, the movie is split over four chapters which makes it very hard to navigate. There are also copyright watermarks stating VCX, Inc. 1979 at the top and bottom of the screen early on in the movie.

Menus: The main menu is very cheesy, and blends a still with a few chapter menu style boxes with choices. The chapter menu is very generic, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a chapter number.

The Feature

Although she was supposed to go to the Upstairs Office, when virgin Justine Jones takes her own life she decides her fate in the afterlife. Since taking her life was her only sin, Justine talks her way back to earth so that she could live a life engulfed by lust until its thought that shes had enough.

Scene 1 - Georgina Spelvin and Harry Reems

Georgina is first sent to The Teacher to have her inhibitions removed. Scene 2 - Clair Lumiere and Georgina Spelvin

This is an okay scene. Its a bit dark and theres no audio from the girls, but there is some nice passion. Its a softer and more romantic scene, and gives the movie a little more sexual depth.

Scene 3 - Georgina Spelvin

Georgina takes care of herself in a bathtub next. She works a small hose around her body, spraying her nipples and spraying her pussy both on the outside and inside. She even slides the hose into her ass before the scene fades out.

This is a nice little solo scene. Its very short, but works nicely to break the scenes apart. Once again, I was a little surprised by the anal in the scene, as well as Georginas reactions not always being pure pleasure. This is a pretty good little scene.

Scene 4 - Georgina Spelvin and Harry Reems

This is a perfect scene to end the movie with. Theres a definite sexuality to it, but its as much about the plot of the movie as it is the sex. Georgina is fantastic throughout this scene, and takes what could be a boring scene and makes it seem like a perfect ending for the movie.

The Devil In Miss Jones is a pretty good movie overall, and an extremely impressive movie when one considers that it was made over thirty years ago. Normally with classic porn I expect a lot of short scenes where you cant really see anything mixed in with a decently done plot. Thats not a complaint, mind you, just a quick observation as many classic porn movies seem to understand how to do sexy better than a lot of modern movies with scenes running five to ten times as long. Here, I was constantly amazed. The plot is simple, but handled very well. It works great to set up the sex scenes, which are amazingly hard and extreme! I can remember five years ago or so when people were amazed to see a chick take a double penetration, and Georgina takes it and plenty of other ass action throughout the entire movie. It helps to give the movie a darker and edgy feel thats magnified by the music and some very well done camera work. Beyond that, I just dont know what to say about The Devil In Miss Jones. I expected it to be your fairly typical classic porn movie, and instead I was completely blown away by its style, sexuality, and emotion. Its very easy to see why The Devil In Miss Jones is still held in high regards over three decades later.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of VCXs DVDs can be found online for between about $10 and $25 with several stores offering them in the $15 range. If youre a fan of classic porn, or even just curious about it, this ones definitely worth the low end. The movie is very impressive and theres some decent care put into the technical aspects. Unfortunately theres barely any effort put into the extras, which is really too bad with how monumental a movie this turned out to be.

Note to VCX: I really wish youd put a little effort into your extras!
