Newly-engaged Theresa (Samantha Ryan) decides to walk to work but a car strikes her and puts her in a coma for 8 months in director Eddie Powell's AWAKENING TO LOVE (2010, New Sensations) for their New Sensations Romance line of DVDs. Shot in HD. Condoms are used.

Theresa awakens from her coma and gets the news from her nurse (Kimberly Kane in an acting-only capacity) that her fianc? Stuart (an out-of-retirement Dale Dabone, who turns in a solid performance in the DVD's first half) has left her, but her broken-legged hospital roommate Nate (Danny Mountain) helps her, and, in a sense, re-awakens her to love.

The script by Crystal Dear really operates between two 20 minute Samantha Ryan sex scenes that bookend the film and the story takes a major detour at the one hour mark of this 2 hour DVD when two other patients and their story take over and climaxes with a sex scene in a hospital blanket closet. It's too bad because the relationship between Nate and Theresa is really what the second half of this DVD should be about and that's glossed over in a speedy montage of Theresa reading and playing cards with Nate.

The sex scenes are generally solid (!! 1/2) except the opening scene is darker than it needs to be. Ryan and Dale Dabone are in that opener then Misty Stone and Tony De Sergio as their distraught friends suck and fuck next. Allie Haze and TJ Cummings play the couple that meet as patients in the hospital, which mirrors the relationship struck up by hospital roommates Ryan and Danny Mountain. These scenes are a bit cookie-cutter type, all of the same interchangeable straight sex variety (no facials) but at the same time well-shot and edited.

The cover of this DVD, Samantha and Danny embracing in a hospital environ, plays right into my major complaint. The duo actually never get together in the hospital as the last sex scene takes place a year later in their bedroom. Maybe the romantics out there might have appreciated some sort of beginning to their romance occurring at the hospital. Kissing, fondling, twat sucking, a hand job, something.

So, AWAKENING TO LOVE (2010, New Sensations) looks and sounds great thanks to director Eddie Powell but this DVD loses its focus once Theresa awakens from her coma. In the future, maybe the folks at New Sensations will learn to stick to their main characters; it's a lesson that Wicked Pictures has yet to learn. Keeping the story simple is fine but explore the relationships between your main characters not the minor ones. Final rating is !! 1/2 outa !!!!!
