The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty average. The audio is clear and well balanced, but there are a few minor background noises. The video is unfortunately presented in the non-anamorphic widescreen format and has a cheap feeling because of it. The lighting is normally well handled and there isn't much grain, but due to the non-anamorphic presentation the picture quality does lack a bit.

Music: The music is simple and light, and in addition to being well balanced with the rest of the audio is works well with the scenes.

Menus: The main menu is surprisingly generic, and just gives a still with the girls and your choices. The chapter menu is okay, and lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene along with a title for the scene. There's also a ?Select a Star? option which lets you choose a scene based on a still of each girl and her name.

The Feature

The Barely Legal series keeps things simple. Each scene revolves around an eighteen year old girl who writes in to Barely Legal about a sexual encounter she had.

Lee stops into the cigar shop looking for cute brunette Charley's father since he keeps a secret stash of Cubans hidden for him. She insists that they wouldn't have them because they're illegal, but offers him some flavored cigars instead. This is a pretty good scene. The opening is simple, but works well to set up the scene. Although Chayse does put out a nice fuck, she also looks a little rough and I ended up wishing she would have covered up a little rather than stripping down completely to show how ghetto she could look. The editing is a bit rough, but nothing too unusual from that magazine style format that Barely Legal has used right from the start. This scene isn't anything special, but it works pretty good.

Brunette Ashli likes to take a little dip in the jacuzzi after getting home each day, but makes due when it's down and repairman Anthony stops by to try to fix it. Barley Legal 82 continues to work with what appears to be a very successful formula for Hustler. There's plenty of light setups, young girls, and sex that's a bit hit or miss due to the inexperience of the performers. I'll readily admit to not being a big fan of barely legal action in general as I like women with experience rather than girls without as much experience, but I also like to mix things up a bit. Barley Legal 82 does mix things up nicely with Ruby showing some great chemistry and how to know what to do with her body while Ashli looks kind of clueless and fresh. The scenes came off as the high and low point of the movie for me for just that reason, but regardless of the performers the action was well captured and the only thing that really interfered with it for me was the magazine letter voiceover style that's been a part of the series as long as I can remember. Barely Legal 82 is a decent little barley legal release.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for Not the Bradys XXX, Anally Yours... Love, Bree Olsen, Strollin in the Colon, Asian Fever 34, Barely Legal POV 2, Nina Hartley: MILF Trainer, and Girls Playing With Girls. The photo gallery lasts about four and three quarter minutes with about six seconds per good looking snapshot or full screen photo. There's also a behind the scenes featurette and plenty of commercials.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts a whopping forty eight seconds in anamorphic widescreen. Charley Chase talks about herself and getting boned by Lee Stone during a little picture in picture action over the scene. This featurette is so short that I couldn't help but think that it was a joke at first. It's extremely generic and adds less than a behind the scenes photo gallery would to the overall DVD. The only thing that really stands out about it in any good way is that somebody cared enough about it to give the widescreen presentation the anamorphic transfer it deserves rather than the non-anamorphic slop that the main feature was presented in.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Hustler?s DVDs can be found online for between about $16 and $25 with stores offering it everywhere in between. Aim low or rent this one first. The movie isn't bad, but with it barely making it past an hour and a quarter once the credits are gone it's hard for me to recommend spending too much on it. The technical aspects show some nice care, but the extras are pretty much a joke. This is a pretty average release.

Note to Hustler: If you're going to include a behind the scenes featurette, please make it count rather than making it shorter than one of the multitude of commercials you always include.
