The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are on the artistic side of things. The audio is clear and well balanced, without any blemishes to hold it back. The video, as usual, is presented in anamorphic widescreen. It often has a pulpy feel to it provided by a bit of grain and some natural light, and with the subject here, it worked for me.

Music: There's a little music here and there. It has a kind of cool feel and nicely helps the movie out when it does appear.

Menus: As usual the main menu shows a bit of care, and nicely mixes in a little animation with a few stills for a very nice first impression. The chapter menu is fairly generic with a small clip of each scene and a chapter number, but picks things up by letting you know the name of each girl in the first chapter of her scene.

The Feature

Robby D. is back with another themed movie for the Playground. This time he expands on the gun play that's been creeping into his and Celeste's movies more and more. Each scene involves girls with guns, and frequently girls in bikinis with guns. There's a little setup for each scene that involves the guns before the girls get down to business.

Scene 1 Shay Jordan and Tommy Gunn

Shay starts things out eating a hot dog that's too long for the bun wearing a bright pink bikini with matching cuffs, a studded leopard print hot dog, and white knee high boots with girly pictures on them. This is a nice scene to start the movie with.

Scene 2 Austin Kinkaid and Scott Nails

It has a slight touch of intensity due to the guns, which once again nicely find their way to the floor rather than becoming sex objects. The scene moves along pretty well, but there's something about the scene that just had it falling a little short. More than anything I think it might be that the scenes are a bit too similar and at this point it started to get a little more noticeable.

Scene 5 Whitney Stevens and Marco Banderas

As El Homo Marco enjoys a smoke and phone call a little too flamboyantly in his gold bikini shorts, yellow scarf, and large shades busty brunette Whitney sets her sights on him while wearing a black and gold bikini and holding a pistol at ready. That completely ruined this scene for me, and I almost skipped the rest of this scene because of it.

Scene 6 Whitney Stevens

This scene just didn't do anything for me. It's very short to the point of being forgettable and seems like a bit of hollow eye candy. This scene would have worked much better if it played in the background during the closing credits.

Naked Aces is a pretty hot fuck flick. Robby D. shows off his artistic side a little while not losing track of the sex, and for the most part does a very nice job bringing the guns and girls together. This was easily my biggest worry with this release, as Robby has used them way too often for my tastes as sex objects. As somebody who's taught people to shoot and knows the importance of safe gun handling, seeing a girl sucking on a barrel, especially when the hammer is cocked like Whitney does, gives me the chills and kills any wood I might have for quite a while. Beyond that, Robby keeps the movie nice and fun. The girls are all badasses in bikinis and play it both fun and sexy while also keeping a touch of intensity creeping into the scenes. I think Austin's scene might be my favorite here, but it's a very tight race between her and Shay, who's always worth watching. My other complaint for the movie is the length. This feels like a full movie, but it barley makes an hour and a half in length! With Shay on the cover as prominently as she was it would have been nice to have a couple minute tease between scenes with her and different weapons, or even mixing in a few other girls. With Celeste doing her usual great job on the costumes, more eye candy is not a bad thing. Yes, there's setups to the scenes and the movie did leave me satisfied, but at not even eighty minutes I really can't blame anybody who keeps on moving past this one for something more substantial. Naked Aces is a hot piece of artistic porn, but at not even an hour and twenty minutes it can't help but fall a bit short.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Digital Playgrounds bigger releases can be found online for between about $18 and $28 with a few stores offering them for under $20. Rent this one first or aim low. The movie's not bad, and is actually fun with some good eye candy and plenty of guns. Its problem is that there's no effort put into the extras and the movie barely makes it past an hour and a quarter. The technical aspects are also a bit artistic, which will be hit or miss for a lot of people. This isn't a bad movie, but the DVD feels way too short as a whole.

Note to Digital Playground: At barley an hour and a quarter with no extras to mention you're going to lose a fair amount of people here. With how much time it appears would be left on the DVD, this would have seemed like a great place to include one of Robby D. or Celeste's other scenes focusing around guns, knives, or the like.
