The Short Story

Initial Expectations: It's been quite a while since I've watched one of David Stanley's movies, but I've been hearing good things about what he's been doing at Wicked. I'm looking forward to checking this one out.

Initial Reaction: Awe.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody wanting an adult movie that stands out from the crowd with its substance rather than nastiness

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are well done, but at times a bit artistic. The audio is clear and well balanced and didn't have a single problem. The video is presented in anamorphic widescreen and also comes across very well. There's just a touch of grain, but with Stanley's artistic styles I can't help but think that it's intentional. There's also a little camera motion, but it's very minor and far from something that stands out as a glaring problem. This is a great looking and sounding release.

Music: The music is fantastic. It has a little variety, but often goes with classical music that's very well balanced with the rest of the movie. Regardless of the style, it's all very well chosen and definitely helps out the entire movie.

Menus: The main menu quickly flashes through a clip to blend it with the boxcover for a decent first impression. As usual with Wicked's releases, there's no real effort put into the chapter menu and you're just given a clip of each scene and a scene number to choose a scene by rather than giving something useful like the names of the performers in each scene.

The Feature

According to the ancient Mayan calendar, on Dec. 21 2012, human consciousness as we know it will undergo a radical change in perspective and the world will end. Friends Randy and Kirsten believe it to be a very special occasion, and decide to go out with a sexual bang along with some of their friends. They've stocked up on food, drinks, sex toys, lube, and even condoms, since Randy's not 100% sure the world is really going to end. Now all they have to do is have a good time as they get ready to see what's going to happen.

Scene 1 ? Kirsten Price and Randy Spears

After giving Randy some ?V? with his champagne to make sure he can get through the night, Kirsten decides to give him a little test drive. Scene 2 ? Ariel X and Lily Page

There's a part of me that wants to blow this scene off due to its simplicity, but I just can't.

Scene 3 ? Vanessa Monet, Chris Cannon, and Eric Masterson

German tennis players Chris and Eric take on black soccer mom Vanessa next as the crowd gathers round to watch. The camera work also didn't do much for me, and often came off being just a little close throughout the scene while having some odd angles when it moved out for the distance shots. Vanessa does a good job, but that just wasn't enough for me here.

Scene 4 ? Jayna Oso, Jenaveve Jolie, and Randy Spears; Kirsten Price and Barrett Blade

Kirsten gets it on with skier dude Barrett as Randy takes on hot chicks Jayna and Jenaveve. This is an okay scene. There's some decent action between the groups, but this style scene rarely works well for me. The action focuses much stronger on Randy's threesome than Kirsten's taking on Barrett, and that imbalance hurt the scene for me. I also don't like this style scene because the chemistry is rarely even between the two groups, which it isn't here either, and to me a good group scene has everybody into everybody else rather than splitting up into pairs. I guess the style works to get the ending of the scene right for the story, but it had a very hard time making it past the average mark for me.

Scene 5 ? Kirsten Price and Randy Spears

Randy and Kirsten finish things up with a bang. After a quick kiss Kirsten lies back for Randy to work her over orally before sucking his cock in return. She gets up to ride him cowgirl style before they try a few different things. They finish things up spooning before Randy gives Kirsten another very nice facial.

This is a fantastic final scene. There's great chemistry between Randy and Kirsten, and the action is nicely captured. It's also funnier than heck with the humor never getting in the way of the emotion. I loved this scene.

Crescendo 2012 is a wonderfully different and creative adult film. It's simple and complex, about beginnings while looking at endings, funny while serious, and about love while being filled with throwaway sex. Yes, I know that sounds confusing, and there's few directors I think that could pull it off as well as David Stanley does here. As usual with Stanley the story is a bit jumpy and has a very artistic feeling that's going to work for some while completely ruining the movies for others. It's also very funny at times, but more than anything it's about emotion. The chemistry and emotion between Kirsten and Randy drive the movie, and the two of them give a fantastic performance that makes Crescendo 2012 work as much as Stanley's efforts behind the camera. Sadly most of the sex scenes hover around the average mark, but Kirsten and Randy's opening and closing scene are hot enough to raise the movie past the average mark nicely. Even with some average sex in it, Crescendo 2012 really impressed me and left me needing to see a lot more of what David Stanley's doing for Wicked Pictures.

The Extra Stuff

Trailers are included for Crescendo 2012, Happy?, Rapture in Blue, 1000 Words, Rendevous, Just Like That, and What Are Friends For?. The main photo gallery lasts about four minutes with with about seven seconds per okay looking snapshot. There are also star galleries for each of the girls lasting around two minutes for each girl along with star stats for Kirsten Price, Jenaveve Jolie, and Jayna Oso. There are also commercials, a behind the scenes featurette, a bonus scene, and Wicked promo material.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts nearly fifteen minutes and is done by the great Red Ezra (who's turned out some of Wicked's best behind the scenes featurettes as well as some great movies of his own). Kirsten starts out talking about making naughty Christmas cookies before Randy has some fun with elf ears. David Stanley chats about the movie before shooting a bit of it. Kirsten and Randy talk about how everybody else tries to keep them apart before a little more of the movie. There's also a bit of Lilly showing off her ink and Kirsten cleaning her boots before Kirsten and Ariel take each other on and have a few words with Ezra. Ezra moves around the group scene chatting with Barrett, Eric, Jayna, Randy, and Jenaveve as well as capturing some of the scene being shot and a little extra action. Finally, it captures a little fun with Randy and Kirsten as well as shooting their final scene. This is a nice behind the scenes featurette. There's some nice personality from the performers and David Stanley, but it's a little heavy on clips from the movie and showing the scenes being shot. As usual, Wicked has put together a behind the scenes featurette worth checking out.

Bonus Scene ? Kirsten Price and Barrett Blade

The bonus scene comes from Just Like That. Kirsten starts out on her knees with Barrett's cock going in and out of her mouth while he mouths off and something goes on with Randy's head in front of the action. Soon after he gives her a good facial finish.

This is an odd bonus scene. To start with, it's not even two minutes long including the legalese disclaimers to start it out. It also gives the feeling that you need to watch the rest of the movie to know what's going on or for the scene to work, which is pretty bad when it's just a blowjob. Kirsten does do a good job sucking the cock, but I couldn't help but think that a lot better scene than this could have been picked as a bonus scene.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of Wicked's DVDs can be found online for between about $15 and $25 with a few stores offering them at the low end. If you want something unique, this one's going to be well worth the money. The movie is very well done and the technical aspects show some nice care. There's also some nice effort put into the extras. This is a very nicely done movie and DVD.
