In the film, MILES FROM NEEDLES, life was going ok for "Mary Ann", and "Lucy", who were having a secret affair with one another. His reasoning for pulling them over is rather confusing, but he says that it is for illegal parking and a busted taillight. They take his word for it, and then the next thing that they know, they are in the back of his cruiser. They assume that the building that he takes them to is his precinct. It isn't. After awhile, the girls start to become suspicious, as they begin to question the Sheriff's legitimacy, especially since he has sex with his wife, right in front of them. The next morning, their suspicion would be justified, as they somehow wake up at the mysterious man's house the next morning. It is there, that they would become better acquainted with the man, his wife, and a strange man-child, that is somehow related to them. It is indeed a "family", with some rather bizarre practices. Practices that include drugs, violence, sex shows, and even murder. Mary Ann and Lucy have found themselves captured by the elusive and murderous Ramirez clan. For years, the meth lab, which the operate, which is located just outside of Needles has been a haven for murder. Taking note of their increasingly violent behavior, Mary Ann and Lucy desperately attempt to escape. Unfortunately however, they soon find that it isn't easy. Because in the case of small towns, it seems as though everyone knows everyone(or is possibly related to them). There is seemingly no way out.

In the case of this porn-thriller from 2007, MILES FROM NEEDLES, is a film that promises a lot right out of the gate, as its synopsis is one which reads well. I immediately took note of the fact that it claims that the film is "THELMA AND LOUISE meets HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES". With this in mind, I went into this film initially, to sort of test it, because surely this is one of those cases where a quote is blown out of proportion, just to sell the film, right? I mean, a Porn film that is like HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES? That sounds too good to be true. "Well, is it?", you ask. Well, color me surprised, because no matter how much I might have doubted it initially, prior to seeing it, MILES FROM NEEDLES, actually IS a lot like those 2 aforementioned films. When it comes to scripted porn, MILES FROM NEEDLES is a pretty damn good film.

The story that is MILES FROM NEEDLES, begins when 2 females, "Mary Ann" and "Lucy"(who are engaged in an affair), find themselves in trouble when Mary Ann's husband "Daryl" ends up dead. The event causes the ladies to go on the run, but unfortunately, little did they know, that their attempt to escape trouble, would only find them in even more danger, as they soon end up in the clutches of a killer, played by Evan Stone. Evan's Stone's character is a cold blooded killer, who skillfully hides behind the guise of a Police Officer. It's a persona that allows him to get closer to potential victims, because they simply fall for the act. On this occasion, unfortunately, Mary Ann and Lucy are just the latest couple to fall for the charade. After they are taken in by the "Sheriff", the film does a great job of keeping the viewer's interest, as we wait on to see where it will go next. The film progresses quite nicely, in terms of its story, all while delivering top notch sex scenes in between. The end result is storyline Porn that has hardly a dull moment. MILES FROM NEEDLES works well both as a Horror/Thriller, as well as an Adult feature. As a regular porn viewer, I am well aware that good films - the ones that make you want to watch from beginning to end, are few, far, and in between. But MILES FROM NEEDLES is one such film. The story here, progresses in a way that will just reel you in. Recently, some of the big Adult companies have been labeling their more grander features as "Blockbusters". While, MILES FROM NEEDLES may have been shot, before such a title was in fashion, it is definitely film that feels like one. At a little over 3 hours in length, MILES FROM NEEDLES is a feature that has enough time for both its sex and its story. Through after awhile, the sex might feel as though it runs a little long, the viewer never feels short changed. And when it comes to that time, as it relates to the story portion of the film, Director B. Skow, injects both imagination and style into it. It is clear that he is indeed a fan of the types of films that seem to have inspired his own. A great setting, nice setups, plot developments, as well as distinct characters make MILES FROM NEEDLES an Adult film that stands out.

And bringing to life each of the film's characters, is of course, the film's cast. The film stars Savanna Samson as "Mary Ann", one of the women on the run from possible trouble. And joining her as Mary Ann's secret lover, "Lucy", is April Blossom. Together they work to create characters that are sometimes, surprisingly sympathetic. But then there are those that represent the danger that the 2 ladies face. From the beginning, first there is of course the abusive husband, "Daryl", and he is played by Steven St. Croix. When Daryl's truck breaks down, he is already pissed. So, imagination just how mad he becomes. when he finds his wife, Mary Ann in bed with another woman. He's irate. But after Daryl is "dealt" a deadly hand, danger is not finished with them yet. That's because they eventually run into the Sheriff, and they soon meet his twisted "family", as well. As mentioned, Evan Stone plays the killer, who likes to pretend that he is a cop. Evan, as he has been a lot of the time, over the course of his long running career, is once again, great. As always, he is funny, and at times, even somewhat scary(having the killer utilize an inhaler, is both funny, and creepy). Joining Stone is Kimberly Kane, as his wife, "Lucile". Lucile appears to be someone, whom just merely follows someone else's lead. That is until, she displays sadistic tendencies of her own, Kane is fantastic. Joining them, is one James Deen, as the mentally handicapped "Flutter". Honestly, we aren't really sure how he relates to the family, however, "Lucile" calls him, her "sister. So take that for what it's worth. It's obviously some kind of nod to THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE, or something. But, whatever the case may be, Flutter is slow. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't like sex. A three-way scene makes that abundantly clear! This must be one of Deen's earlier roles. Deen, who is now uber popular, has seen and has done a lot in his time since this film was released. This film is just a small glimpse of the performer's later greatness. Rounding out the main cast with less involvement, is Brian Surewood, as an unnamed character. He is a guy which Stone comes upon in a garage(or whatever it is). We the viewer, initially are led to believe that he will be just another victim(along with the girl that he's with[played by Maria Bellucci]) however, in a bit of a twist, he ends up helping Stone. This development kind of recalls that TEXAS CHAINSAW lore, that everyone within a small area may be related. Was this guy a Ramirez family member? Who knows? But it's possible.

MILES FROM NEEDLES is a film that I went into with fairly high expectations. So, did it pay off? Absolutely. For a scripted Porn film that runs over 3 hours, it better give us something that's worth the time spent. Luckily. it is a film that has plenty about it to enjoy. A great cast, great sex, as well as a well rounded story, with an overall outcome which feels complete. For an Adult feature, that's an accomplishment.

As I always say, sometimes it's just difficult to choose a favorite, when they are all good.
