I don't care for depressing scenes, and the suicide turned me off in the early part of the movie so I didn't enjoy the remainder as well as a happy movie.

Considering this was shot in 1972, the quality of the picture is very good. While the box cover says it includes previously deleted footage, the feature clocks in at about 65 minutes, as did the original. So there might be an extra moment or two, but where, who knows? Unfortunately, the extras are slim at best. A lame photo gallery that flips through at a measly 44 seconds (though one can pause). There is also the trailer, which is interesting for what it is. And the audio comes in English and Spanish. That's it. Such a seminal title certainly deserves much more.

[ /image ] --> Synopsis:
Justine Jones, unfulfilled in her life, commits suicide by slashing her wrists. Jones ends up at a way station before Heaven and Hell. Since Jones committed suicide, she has to go to Hell. She is allowed to return to Earth for some carnal fun, after some tutelage, before her eternal punishment begins.

Video/Audio:
The available audio track on The Devil in Miss Jones is a 2.0 English Mono track. The quality of the track is exactly what can be expected from an adult film from the early seventies. There is a very small dynamic range and it sounds very flat. The music never interferes at any time with the spoken dialog. There are no other language tracks and no subtitle options are available.

[ /image ] --> The Devil in Miss Jones is presented in the widescreen ratio of 1.37:1, which appears to be the original aspect ratio for the film. The opening to the film and the beginning credits to the film is actually framed at 1.33:1. At the end of the beginning credits, the film changes tracks and the print opens up to the 1.37:1 aspect ratio that the rest of the film is in. I'm not sure why VCX designed the disc this way and used the pan and scan print for the opening and then the widescreen print for the rest of the film. Viewers with a standard consumer grade television will probably never notice that the film is in widescreen since the average consumer grade television, due to overscan, only shows a picture of 1.37:1. This print of the film is in relatively good shape, especially for its age. The color levels are good and although there are artifacts the print is relatively clean. This is probably the best transfer of The Devil and Miss Jones that we are ever going to get.

[ /image ] --> Special Features:
As with the other VCX discs I have seen, this one has almost no special features. First up is the Photo Gallery, which contains 19 still photos from the film on a track. The photos fade in and then disappear as soon as they have finished fading in, which makes this feature virtually useless. Web Site contains an advert for the VCX Internet presence. Coming Soon has a screen, no preview mind you, for Taboo. There is nothing present here that was even worth mentioning.

Navigation:
There are five chapters available for The Devil in Miss Jones from the main menu, which provides the ability to navigate through the film. There is no time code for the film, so time searching is not an option.

[ /image ] --> Review:
The Devil in Miss Jones is the first disc released by VCX and does it show. The movie, which is only 67 minutes long, spans over four tracks resulting in a pause as the player shifts tracks each time. This also means that you can't reverse over the tracks either. Unfortunately this trend of theirs would continue over the next several discs they released as well.

The Devil and Miss Jones is a classic film from the golden age of adult entertainment that any connoisseur of adult entertainment should have seen by now. If for no other reason than just for the historical value alone of the film.

The story line is very well done with an in depth story that is important to follow to get the most enjoyment out of the film. This is one of the most dark and gritty adult films that I have ever seen. From the graphic suicide at the beginning of the film to the dark and sinister ending that must be seen to be believed, The Devil and Miss Jones never pretends to be a lighthearted happy adult film. This film also contains the best ending I think I have ever seen for an adult film.

[ /image ] --> The cast, unfortunately, is a far cry looks wise to what you get today in your average adult film. No one is great to look at, however, each member of the cast does a great job of acting their parts, something rarely seen these days. The cast is also often much hairier then the women in today's porn, which might turn people off.

The sex in this film is very well done and it isn't just thrown in arbitrarily, it fits the story. It also is far nastier than one might expect from the time period it was made with scenes that include oral, vaginal and anal sex with anal fingering, DP, fruit and one hell of a weird ass scene with a snake. One thing that people might not like about the sex scenes is they are much shorter than the average scene today and each one doesn't contain full intercourse, only some do, others are just teasers.

[ /image ] --> The music for the film is mostly piano with one original song and was made for the film. It doesn't have the same feel as the majority of the music in today's films. The music sets the mood for the scenes and was so well done that you can even buy the soundtrack CD at Amazon.

The Money Shot:
I heartily recommend The Devil in Miss Jones to all that enjoy porn with a plot that like, or aren't bothered by, nastier sex and aren't bothered by dark movies. The transfer is probably the best we'll ever get. If you don't like a plot, nasty sex or darker theme movies, this is definitely one for you to skip.
